Il y a quelques impôts qui sont liés avec des institutions si utiles, que loin d’être une charge pour la nation, ils semblent plutôt lui apporter un bénéfice; tels sont ceux de le poste aux lettres, du droit sur les voitures publiques, et celui de garantie des monnaies. Les deux premiers de ces impôts ont produit en l’an IX:
Poste aux lettres. L. 8,000,000.
Voitures publiques. 410,000.
8,410,000.

There are some taxes which are related with so useful institutions that they, far from being a burden upon the nation, seem to bear a benefit for her; such as postal fees, fares of public coaches, and seigniorage. The first two of these taxes yielded the following in the year IX:
