La science de l’économie politique est si difficile, elle est encore aujourd’hui si peu répandue, tandis toutes les autres ont fait des progrès rapides, qu’il ne faut pas s’étonner si au milieu des ténèbres du moyen âge elle était absolument ignorée; mais le jour viendra bientôt sans doute, où la France profitera du progrès des lumières, et se rappellera en réformant sa législation commerciale, que l’intérêt du consommateur est toujours le premier intérêt de la nation.

The science of political economy is so difficult and so unknown still today, while all the others have made rapid progress, that it should not be surprising that, in the middle of the darkness of the middle age, it was completely ignored. But the time will come soon without doubt when France will benefit from the progress of the insights, and will be reminded, in reforming her commercial legislation, that the interest of the consumer is always the premier interest of the nation.
