C’est d’après des calculs faits dans un pays où l’industrie n’est pas très perfectionnée que nous l’avons fixée ainsi; elle est certainement bien plus forte à Genève, et dans toutes les villes industrieuses et riches; un moindre salaire nécessaire y procure un plus grand produit brut.

(6) We assume, for simplification, that the proportion of the necessary wages to the gross produce from them is constantly 2 to 5. According to the calculation which has been made from a country where industry is not so improved, we have adopted the assumption. The proportion is certainly much lower in Geneva, and in all industrious and rich cities, where the smaller necessary wages procures the larger gross produce.
