MONT-BLANC. Le Département du Mont-Blanc possédait à Chambéry deux fabriques de gaze, qui exportaient leurs produits à Lyon et à Turin, et qui y subsistaient depuis long-temps sans monopole; elles ont été ruinées par la révolution. L’on a cherché à les remplacer par deux fabriques d’armes, et une de limes, qui sont déjà tombées, ainsi que par une fabrique de toiles peintes établie à Annecy, et qui ne peut s’y soutenir. L’industrie naturelle de ce Département, celle qui y subsistait sans monopole, avait donc bien une autre vigueur, que cette industrie étrangère qu’on lui a substitué, et que les privilèges ne peuvent y maintenir (15).

MONT-BLANC. The department of Mont-Blanc had two manufactories of gauze at Chambéry, which exported their produce to Lyon and Turin, and which subsisted for a long time without monopoly. They were ruined due to the revolution. Some attempts was made to compensate them with two manufactories of arms and one of files, which have already fallen, as well as with a manufactory of print, which was established at Annecy and which cannot be maintained there. The natural industry of this department which subsisted there without monopoly, therefore, was of different vigour from this unfamiliar industry which was intended to replace it and which cannot be maintained there even with privileges (15).
