Do not, therefore, refer to the example of England to burden down our industry with new monopolies, and do not deprive the husbandman and the landlord of part of the revenue reaped from production of raw materials. You would do the double evil: to take something from some people to give it to others, and to direct the national capital from a canal where it is truly profitable to another canal where the profit which it procures is a loss for another class of the nation(6).
