On n’a point â craindre, je pense, de voir rétablir des Compagnies à privilége exclusif pour le commerce de l’Amérique, des côtes d’Afrique, des échelles du Levant, ou de la mer du Nord. Les réclamations de nos Colonies, et celles des commerçants français s’y opposeraient trop sans doute. Mais il n’est pas également certain, qu’on ne forme point de Compagnie pour les Grandes-Indes, l’exemple des autres nations pouvant à cet égard faire illusion au Gouvernement; ce n’est donc qu’a l’examen de celle-là que nous devons nous arrêter à présent.

There seems to me no fear that there will be another company with an exclusive privilege for trading with America, the African Coasts, Levant, or the North Sea. The opinions of our colonies and French merchants would too clearly be opposed to the idea. However, it is not so certain whether there will be no new company for trading with Great India, as an example of other nations may coax the government into this project. We must, therefore, stop here to dwell on this examination.
